Auto Body Painting Services

Auto Body Painting Services by Kevin’s Collision Center involve restoring, repairing, or changing the paint on a vehicle’s exterior. Our services are typically provided after damage to the vehicle’s body, such as scratches, dents, or after collision repairs, but they are requested for aesthetic reasons (like changing the vehicle’s color). Here’s a breakdown of what our services entail:

Surface Preparation:

  • Cleaning: The vehicle’s surface is thoroughly cleaned to remove dirt, grease, and contaminants that could affect the paint job.
  • Sanding: The damaged or old paint layer is sanded down to create a smooth surface for the new paint to adhere to.
  • Dent and Scratch Repair: Any dents, scratches, or imperfections are repaired to ensure a smooth, even surface before painting.
  • Masking: Parts of the vehicle that shouldn’t be painted (windows, trims, etc.) are masked off to avoid overspray.

Priming:

  • Application of Primer: After the surface is prepared, a primer is applied to help the paint adhere properly and to protect the vehicle’s body from corrosion.
  • Sanding and Smoothing: The primer is usually sanded down once it’s dried to ensure a smooth base layer for the paint.

Painting:

  • Color Matching: If the goal is to match the car’s existing color, our shop uses computer systems or our skilled technicians to match the paint color precisely.
  • Base Coat Application: The actual paint is applied in multiple layers using spray guns in a controlled environment, like a paint booth.
  • Layering: Depending on the paint type, the base coat may be applied in several layers to ensure even coverage and depth of color.

Clear Coat Application:

  • A clear protective coat is applied over the paint to add shine and protect the paint from UV rays, weather, and minor abrasions.
  • The clear coat is usually what gives the car its glossy finish and enhances durability.

Curing and Drying:

  • The vehicle is placed in a controlled environment (often a heated booth) to allow the paint and clear coat to properly cure and harden.

Polishing and Finishing:

  • After the paint has fully cured, the vehicle may be polished and buffed to remove any minor imperfections and give it a smooth, glossy finish.
  • Wax or other protective coatings might also be applied to enhance the shine and longevity of the paint.
